I have said nothing about scalability on the Clique website, because I didn't want to load it with a disproportionate amount of technical detail.
Clique does not scale indefinitely, as the product of transmission speed and message frequency is proportional to the number of users. But I maintain that Clique scales enough to meet its mission. Clique can conveniently support 30,000 users on a cheap broadband connection, and less conveniently support 1,000,000 users. If more than these numbers are this committed to privacy, I will be thrilled, and we can architect the next technology at that junction.
I will point out that in general, brute-force bandwidth solutions to privacy problems do work. As an example, consider what would be necessary to give every person on the planet 120,000 bits per second for their own encrypted videoconference uplink. Sound daunting? That traffic fits on one optical fiber. Robust demux equipment isn't cheap at this time, but solutions are within human reach.
